André Buser is one of the most distinguished and versatile bassists on the Swiss professional scene. After getting his degree from Jazz&Rock Schule in Freiburg (Germany) and further lessons with Heiri Känzig (Zurich) and Oscar Stagnaro (New York), (Workshops with: N.H.Ø. Pedersen, Alain Caron, Ray Anderson, Larry Grenadier, etc.) hemade a name for himself mainly in the Latin scene. He is the musical head of the 14 member salsa band PICASON, with which he has released three albums. This included collaboration with such international idols as Juan Munguia, Julio Barretto, Amik Guerra, Tomas “El Panga” Ramos and Ernesto Manuitt. He has demonstrated his love of experimentation and groove-accentuated playing with Andy Brugger’s Diet Bang or Kaspar Ewald’s “Exorbitantem Kabinett” KEEK, among others. He has shared the stage with Lisette Spinnler, Lars Lindvall, André Kunz, Christy Doran, Jojo Mayer and toured Germany, England, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Austria, Egypt, Brazil, and South Africa. His bass playing is also in demand in the world music and pop scene (Eric Wainaina, Nubya, Levin Deger, Beat Escher, Robbie Jansen, Ago Totaro, Vic Vergeat, Peter Wagner), and he is involved in crossover projects with contemporary e-music (Etienne Abelin’s Matteis project). He has performed at Montreux Jazzfestival, Paléo Festival Nyon, AVO-Session Basel, Off-Beat-Jazzfestival Basel, Grahamstown Jazzfestival (SA), Splashy Fen/Durban (SA) The delicate side of his playing is shown to advantage in eg. the quartet with flutist Günter Wehinger and guitarist Julio Azcano or in the duet with vibraphonist Urs Wiesner. His first CD “AVALANCHES”, an album made up purely of bass solos, is an anomaly on the Swiss music landscape. André Buser teaches electric bass, Ensemble and Theory at the Musikakademie Basel and the achhochschule Nordwestschweiz Jazz Department. He is also active as an arranger and producer.
